This NYC Salon Offers Meditation Sessions During Your Hair Appointment

Meditation has surged in popularity over the past few years thanks to growing research and testimony that says it can benefit the mind and body. There's something to be said for taking time away from your phone or computer to breathe, set intentions, and quiet your ceaseless thoughts. Over time, the practice can result in a calmer, more peaceful, and more present kind of lifestyle.

The lifestyle has made its way into technology in the form of various meditation apps and even been connected with food and our dining habits; the practice of mindful eating has become commonplace. Now meditation is even making its way into hair salons-or one specific hair salon, at least.

Celebrity stylist Oscar Blandi's namesake NYC salon now offers complimentary meditation sessions during each customer's hair appointment. It's definitely unique and innovative, but we have a feeling it will quickly become the norm as the line between beauty and wellness blurs.

Blandi has partnered with the mediation masterminds at Mndfl, a popular destination for learning and practicing meditation with the help of experts. (Anyone who's ever tried to sit down and meditate with no preface knows how hard it is. Mndfl built a business on guiding newbies and veterans alike through the meditative process.) So far, Mndfl only has three locations, all based in NYC, though Blandi's salon technically counts as a fourth location, right?

If you book a hair appointment-whether for a blowout or color session-you'll be offered free meditation service. If you're picturing a spiritual guru standing in front of you and yelling at you to focus over the drone of a hair dryer, know that that's not an accurate depiction of the experience. Instead, peaceful meditation tracks will be loaded on tablets. Then, customers will receive noise-canceling headphones. Sit back and slow down until your hair appointment is over. That's it. It's a sweet, simple, and effective way to slow down in the midst of a busy day (and city).

With wellness practices and products trending the way that they are, we suspect this will eventually become commonplace. And why not? We'll take a mindful and meditative moment whenever we can get it, even if that's in the middle of a hair appointment. What's better than leaving a salon with great hair and a calm and balanced mindset?
